Blog of the Week: Weight Loss Journey

Weight Loss Journey

I haven’t always eaten healthy as a matter of fact there was a time in my life when a chocolate bar (Oh Henry’s to be exact) and a can of Coke were daily occurrences. That was a very tough time in my life I was in a job that I was good at but didn’t like, in a marriage that wasn’t going well and was raising two beautiful children. Eating was how I dealt with my emotions at that time and this was a behaviour pattern that had been with me since childhood. Feeling unwell and stressed was a daily occurrence to the point that my digestive system was consistently causing me problems. I was carrying a lot of extra weight and my self-esteem and self-confidence had plummeted. I felt that life was just defeating me!

As I reflect on that time of my life I am so grateful that I decided to take charge of my life, my health and my wellness. I literally put myself in the driver’s seat and did a big Uturn heading towards a life of great health and wellness. I started to exercise regularly but really did not pay much attention to my nutrition in the beginning. I mean the whole thing was a bit overwhelming but as I started to move more I noticed that I was feeling better about myself.

When my weight loss plateaued I knew I had to start paying attention to what I was eating. After all weight loss is 80% nutrition! It was really hard to find a way of eating that worked for my body, as what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. I tried lots of different “diets” and even supplements to help me reach my goal. They would work for a while but of course “diets” always fail and weren’t sustainable as a life long way to eat.

Once I started working in the world of fitness and health I learned so much about food and nutrition. I am still learning to this day. Nutrition is always changing and is such a big field of research. We are discovering that what we put in our mouths directly affects our physical and mental health. Our food choices give us positive or negative energy and it really is true “garbage in equals garbage out”.

I now look at my nutrition through a lens that promotes balance of nutrients for great energy, reduced inflammation, and positive mental health. I couple this with a balanced exercise program, regular breath work, meditation and positive self-talk. This balanced approach is the focus of our Balanced Weight Loss Solution and it works.

I will always have to watch my weight, some people are just like that and even though I have been in weight maintenance for over 20 years, I still have times when weight loss has to be my focus. After all old behaviour patterns die hardL I feel great and full of energy using the balanced approach and so do my clients! If it is your time to promote positive change in your life and loose that weight using a balanced approach please contact us at the Studio to book an appointment.

Wishing you balance & great health:)
